April Marquette, Teaching Others to Live Out Their Dreams through Writing

April Alisa Marquette is a writing coach, speaker, and writer who has helped many new authors in their pursuit of their dreams. Having started out writing at a young age, she was able to take her life in an entirely novel direction by writing in her spare time until she published enough to make her writing into a career. Marquette has developed a process of writing and constructing a story that she shares with many through talks that she does and through one on one coaching. To her, it’s simply a matter of defining your dreams and living them out through the actions that you take.

She is no stranger to the game. Marquette published her first novel “Absolution” over a decade ago. While it was not a best seller at the beginning, it is the novel that launched her career to where it is today. After the success of this book, she started to become more confident in her ability to write novels that people wanted to read and that others could connect with. “Absolution” was met with positive reviews from those that read it and eventually became part of a trilogy, with Marquette writing two more novels to complete the series. In the years following this initial success, she quit her full-time office job and developed a career as an author and speaker.

A good writer has to have a good agent. Marquette has had her own interactions with different agents and has learned a lot in the process. When asked what to look for in an agent, she often shares her experience with her first agent. “My first agent was an older gentleman who said he loved my book,” she said, when we asked her. She went on to say that the problem was downplayed how good her books were when publishing them because he couldn’t bring himself to get so emotional over a book. Needless to say, this shocked Marquette a lot. As she had to learn by herself what a good agent was and how to find one, she knows how hard it can be for most people to do so if they don’t have any experience. In order to help people who are trying to get their work out there, she has worked through the self-publishing process and has developed methods for the average writer to have much better than average results when approaching the task of getting their books in the hands of readers.

These days, Marquette’s time is split between writing, coaching, and speaking. She continues to work to teach others how to make their stories something that they can see come to life. Even though her life hasn’t slowed down, she still makes time for reading, a hobby that has kept her creativity alive over the years.
